DKT had a record-breaking 2010 and we are very proud to be playing a major role in providing women and men in the developing world with choices to plan their families and protect themselves from disease. A number of highlights follow:
- In 2010, DKT served more than 22 million couples. This makes DKT one of the largest private providers of family planning in the developing world, and represents approximately 11 percent of all couples using modern spacing methods in the developing world, excluding China.
- In 2010, DKT programs averted an estimated 5.1 unwanted pregnancies, 1 million unsafe abortions, and 11,000 maternal deaths.
- DKT sold 595,000,000 condoms in 2010 – enough to go around the earth more than 2.5 times.
- DKT continues to be a great investment, delivering highly cost-effective family planning products and services. In 2010, DKT’s cost per couple served was less than $2 per couple annually, the lowest such rate among major family planning providers. DKT’s headquarters expenses are only 2 percent of total budget.
