DKT is one of the most cost-effective family planning organizations in the world, providing products and services to couples at less than $2 per year. Our headquarters expenses are less than 2% of total budget. DKT provided 24.5 million couple years of protection in 2011. This represents some 6% of all contracepting couples in the developing world, excluding China. DKT programs averted 7 million unwanted pregnancies, 1.4 million abortions, and nearly 12,000 maternal deaths in 2011. |
Since 1989, the nonprofit organization DKT International has been promoting family planning and HIV/AIDS prevention through social marketing. DKT has 19 programs in 18 countries and in 2011 provided and sold 650 million condoms, more than 72 million cycles of oral contraceptives, and over 14 million injectable contraceptives, 1 million IUDs, and 12 million misoprostol pills. Last year, DKT efforts prevented 7 million pregnancies, 11,000 maternal deaths, and 1.4 million abortions.
DKT uses TV commercials and other mass media, including internet platforms, to reach millions of women and men with messages about family planning and safe sex.
