DKT operates a regional social marketing program in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) with hub offices in Egypt and operations in Jordan, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Sudan. DKT Egypt opened its doors in 2004 to fill a gap in Egypt’s private sector by providing high-quality, low-cost contraceptives. During that time, DKT has emerged as the primary provider of IUDs to both the public and private sector in Egypt.
After years of training providers on IUDs and collaborating with the government to expand access to long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), efforts to prioritize long-term, highly-effective contraceptive methods paid off. In a recent survey, 99.4% of Egyptian women reported knowing about IUDs.
In addition to IUDs, DKT Egypt also provides male condoms, emergency contraceptive pills (EC), and vaginal foaming tablets (suppositories). DKT launched extensive programs to spread awareness about ECs throughout Egypt. One such campaign was “Be Sure, Be Confident,” a message shared across a bilingual website in tandem with a social media campaign, informs women of this option.
