DKT WomanCare is a global reproductive health marketing and product distribution platform. The WomanCare unit is cross-cutting and provides products to DKT’s own country-based programs as well as multilateral, governmental, commercial, and NGO partners.
Mission: DKT WomanCare’s mission is to increase the number of public and private health providers who can access and utilize a wide range contraceptives and reproductive health technologies, including the Ipas Manual Vacuum Aspirator (MVA), medical abortion tablets, Levoplant, and IUDs.
Strengthening supply chains: DKT WomanCare builds sustainable and resilient supply chains with existing partners to prevent stock outs and expands the number of countries where products are sold. This allows more providers to access family planning and safe abortion products, and to do so in a timely manner to serve the women who need them.
- Improving safe abortion care: DKT is the exclusive global distributor and marketer of the Ipas MVA technology in more than 100 countries around the world. The Ipas MVA is the world’s most utilized, safe and effective surgical abortion technology, and can also be used to manage post-partum hemorrhaging, early pregnancy loss and endometrial biopsy.
- Expanding access to affordable contraceptive options: DKT is also the exclusive global distributor and marketer of the Levoplant, a 3 year, WHO-Prequalified contraceptive implant manufactured by Shanghai Dahua Pharmaceutical. This long-acting, reversible contraceptive (LARC) provides protection against unwanted pregnancy at low cost. In 2018, DKT and Dahua announced a price reduction to make Levoplant more accessible in FP2020 countries.
Building capacity: DKT WomanCare increases the capacity of trained health providers to deliver services, and supports an enabling service provision environment. In 2020, DKT launched WomanCare Global Academy, an eLearning platform to improve providers’ confidence and capacity to provide reproductive health services. The first module orients providers to Levoplant and provides step-by-step instruction on the insertion and removal process.
