Unique behavior change campaigns, direct outreach work, and abortion access in the US

may 2026 news and updates, behavior change, abortion access, outreach work

Dear Friend of DKT,

As most of you are likely aware, medication abortion access in the United States is under attack — again. The US Supreme Court has ruled that mifepristone can continue to be accessed by mail, following a federal court’s temporary nationwide restriction on the abortion pill. While the legal back-and-forth continues, carafem, a DKT affiliate, remains flexible and ready to provide mifepristone + misoprostol or a misoprostol-only regimen — safe, effective, and backed by scientific evidence. Turning to the global stage, I recently came back from trips to DKT’s offices in the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Thailand. These trips provided hope and inspiration, as I saw people in pharmacies picking DKT products off shelves, motivated teams channeling their passion into impact, and exciting launches and rebrands underway across the region. In the Philippines, we celebrated the launch of two new oral contraceptives. In Vietnam, after 30 years in the country, we are modernizing our brands while continuing to deliver millions of couple years of protection (CYPs) per year. In Myanmar, against difficult circumstances, our resilient team continues to serve thousands of pharmacies and clinics and provide subsidized implants and IUDs to low-income women. And in Thailand, DKT is making a big difference as the primary importer and distributor of affordable reproductive health technologies to both the government and in the private sector.

Below, we offer a look into our genius marketing teams, including a one-of-a-kind concert in Liberia, and new advertisements from Mozambique to Pakistan, that are changing behaviors one click at a time. We also delve into our direct outreach work and how DKT aims to be anywhere and everywhere where family planning is needed.

Read on to learn more, and as always, reach out with any questions or comments.

Cheers,

Chris Purdy

DKT and Kiss condoms host one of the top 5 concerts in the history of Liberia!

Earlier this year, DKT Liberia threw a party with a purpose. The Red Kiss Concert, held on February 14 at the SKD Sports Complex in Monrovia, drew approximately 7,000 attendees, all of whom earned their entry by bringing two empty packs of Kiss Condoms. The result was an evening that was equal parts celebration and public health activation, blending live music with a creative, barrier-lowering approach to condom promotion among young people in Monrovia and Paynesville.

The event made waves well beyond the concert grounds, dominating Liberian social media as the #1 trending topic throughout February and drawing significant live-streaming audiences. Many attendees called it one of the top five concerts in the history of Liberian music. Reaching young people where they are, making safe sex feel like something worth showing up for, and building a brand that people actually want to be part of are all core tenets of DKT.

Bold brands with ad campaigns that break the mold

At DKT, we take pride in our bold marketing campaigns that mix humor, pleasure, and safety while breaking cultural stigma and de-medicalizing contraception.

Below is an assortment of some of our most recent ad campaigns from DKT brands, including Prudence in Mozambique playing on the concept of “was it bad, or was it BAAAADDDD?” and the launch of Fiesta condoms in India.

In the field: DKT’s direct outreach work

While DKT is best known for making contraceptives available through pharmacies, clinics, and drug shops, our teams also deliver direct services at outreach events—open-air markets, community gatherings, and large public venues where people already are.

From India to Mozambique, DKT staff and partners set up on-site to distribute products, counsel clients, and, in some cases, provide services like implant insertion on the spot.

In Ghana’s Western Region, DKT AWA recently did exactly that. Working across six districts alongside local health authorities, the team conducted outreach, counseling, and myth-busting sessions that resulted in 2,733 women adopting modern contraceptive methods, primarily Femject injectables and Jadelle implants, generating 3,477 CYPs in total.
