November 2025 Newsletter

Dear Friend of DKT,

If you only do one thing reading this newsletter, please take 3 minutes to watch the powerful acceptance speech by Silvia Okoth, one of three DKT awardees of the Phil Harvey Innovation award. That video is here, and more details about this award are below.

DKT teams attended the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) in Bogota this month. This meeting was an important reminder that, together, all of us working in reproductive health are making a difference. DKT teams led conversations on long-acting contraception, safe abortion access, and next-generation contraceptives. And DKT’s Coffee & Condoms booth provided free libations and protection with a dose of humor.

I returned home from the ICFP with a question in mind, and I’ve shared those thoughts here; the imagery and storytelling related to the family planning community seems to be missing children – and I wonder if this is an opportunity to expand the reach of our messaging around reproductive health.

Our November newsletter includes information on DKT’s Quality Assurance Policy, designed to ensure every contraceptive and SRH commodity meets the highest global standards.

Also below is news on new investments that will strengthen DKT’s impact—from expanding contraceptive access in Francophone West and Central Africa to deepening our work with adolescents and underserved communities in Mozambique. These partnerships help ensure that those who face the greatest barriers to care are not left behind.

We approach the end of 2025 with a sense of urgency and momentum.  We hope you will continue to support DKT and our efforts.  And if you have ideas on how DKT can be doing more or better, we’d love to hear them.

Cheers,

Chris Purdy

DKT at the International Conference on Family Planning!

DKT International had a strong presence at the 2025 International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) in Bogotá, Colombia, engaging in panels, technical sessions, and interactive exhibits that highlighted innovation, inclusion, and sustainability in reproductive health. From showcasing product demonstrations to celebrating emerging leaders, DKT reaffirmed its role as a key partner in advancing global family planning goals.

At this year’s ICFP, DKT was proud to recognize the winners of the 2025 Phil Harvey Innovation Award: Silvia Okoth (Kenya), Chioma Favour Uzoma (Nigeria), and Noor Jaber (Lebanon). Each is advancing creative, community-based approaches that expand reproductive freedom and dignity in some of the world’s most challenging contexts.

Throughout the week, DKT staff participated in panels and presentations on topics ranging from long-acting contraception to safe abortion and next-generation contraceptives. At DKT’s booths—including the popular Coffee & Condoms—teams connected with partners and peers from across the global SRH and rights community.

DKT WomanCare also led a hands-on demonstration of manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) for a deaf healthcare provider, underscoring DKT’s commitment to inclusive, high-quality training.

The conference served as a vital opportunity to exchange knowledge, celebrate innovation, and strengthen partnerships advancing reproductive health and rights for all.

New grants strengthen DKT’s global efforts to expand contraceptive access

We are pleased to share that DKT has received two grant awards to expand critical access to contraception in regions where women and girls face some of the world’s greatest barriers to care.

DKT has received private foundation support over 5 years to expand access to modern contraception across Francophone West and Central Africa (FWACA). This investment will strengthen private-sector delivery channels, introduce innovative contraceptive technologies, and bring high-quality reproductive health options to underserved rural and peri-urban communities. This work is vital in a region where contraceptive prevalence remains low and maternal mortality rates are among the highest in the world.

We are also pleased to share that DKT Mozambique has been selected as an Action for Women’s Health awardee. As one of more than 80 organizations chosen from over 4,000 applicants worldwide, DKT will receive new funding to deepen its work making contraceptives and safe abortion products accessible to women across Mozambique. By pairing social marketing with last-mile delivery, mobile clinics, youth-centered outreach, and gender-transformative campaigns, DKT ensures that adolescents, unmarried women, and those living in remote areas can access trusted, stigma-free reproductive health care.

Please contact us if you would like to learn more. We have plenty of ideas on where discrete funding could be deployed to make an immediate difference.  DKT is one of the most cost-effective family planning and reproductive health organizations in the world, delivering impact at scale.  Our cost per couple served in 2024 was less than $1.
