Francophone West and Central Africa (FWACA)
DKT Francophone West and Central Africa (FWACA) at a Glance
- In 2016, DKT launched its first product (Kiss condoms) in Senegal with the intention of expanding a social marketing program that leveraged commonalities across neighboring countries. Today, DKT markets and sells a range of reproductive health products in over a dozen countries including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Cote d'Ivoire, Gabon, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Togo.
- The countries that make up Francophone West and Central Africa have some of the highest maternal mortality rates and lowest contraceptive prevalence rates in the world. For every woman using contraception in the region, there are two women with an unmet need for contraception.
- DKT FWACA leverages economies of scale in procurement, marketing, and communications to bring products to market in a cost-effective manner. By offering harmonized branding and pooling procurement across the region, consumers in less populous countries benefit from lower-priced products.
- DKT FWACA has achieved a number of “firsts” in the region. Our Lydia-branded IUDs were the first IUD to be introduced in some parts of the region. DKT began registering and launching medical abortion products in mid-2018—the first on the market. DKT is also one of the only distributors of manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) technology in the region.
