Myanmar’s healthcare system has long struggled with inadequate resources, especially with regards to sexual and reproductive health procurement, training and supplies. However, the past three years have severely strained an already underfunded healthcare system. High maternal mortality rates persist and there is a significant unmet need for contraceptive services, particularly in remote regions. Many health care providers (HCPs) in these hard-to-reach areas lack the necessary training to provide accurate counseling and services, which further exacerbates poor health outcomes. Additionally, the ongoing socio-political challenges have disrupted national health programs, making it increasingly difficult for HCPs to access continuous medical education and up-to-date resources.
DKT Myanmar anticipated the problems doctors would face as the situation began worsening and developed the Fem Health Academy, an online portal where doctors and providers could receive on demand training related to SRH-specific products and services. The Fem-Health Academy was established to bridge the gap providers now face in their professional development with continuous, accessible, and relevant education, equipping them with the tools and knowledge needed to improve reproductive health services. The platform includes interactive learning modules, a community-driven case sharing video library, demonstration videos, and a live dashboard for real-time monitoring. An estimated 75 percent of participants completed the courses in the first year.
The Fem Health Academy has reached over 1,000 providers, with plans to expand to an additional 1,500 providers in the coming months. The platform is hosted on Z-Waka and requires a password for entry.
